Mona’s Homemade Ice Cream

July 6, 2013 By Meegan 23 Comments

I say this all the time… You definitely will want this for your recipe file. BUT, you REALLY will. Let’s get started…When I first met my hubby, I always heard about Mona’s homemade ice cream.  (Mona is his mom.)

My family made homemade ice cream, too.  They would make the custard, cook it, then take hours to make it.  Eh-I never really liked it.  I was not a fan.  But, of course I ate it.  It was ICE CREAM, right??

Then my eyes and taste buds were opened to MONA’S:

To start off with, I believe our ice cream maker is a 5 quart. So you can adjust or readjust to your own ice cream maker.

{Mona’s Homemade Ice Cream}

Ingredients:

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 1/2 pints whipping cream or heavy cream

1 quart half and half

1 1/2 cups sugar

3 teaspoons vanilla

Whole Milk

 Add:

All ingredients in your ice cream maker the EXCEPT MILK.  Mix well with a spoon so the sweetened condensed milk and sugar don’t settle at the bottom. It might take awhile. But be patient. It is worth your time.

Add milk to “fill line” on container.  Mix again until all combined.

Begin your ice cream maker and follow directions by manufacturer.

The best thing about this ice cream for me, is that there is NO COOKING at all.  It is creamy, without using eggs.

You can also add at the end: crushed peppermints, broken butterfingers, blueberries, peanut butter cups, or any candy of your choice.

There wasn’t a custard to make.  No waiting for hours to have our ice cream.  It was just a bowl of deliciousness flavor.

Licking the paddle isn’t too shabby either.

Mona’s Homemade Ice Cream will soon become one of your Summertime favorite recipes.  That is a promise.

Thanks for stopping by on a busy day!

My ice cream maker can make up to 6 quarts, so that is the measurement I went off of. Be sure to leave room for the ice cream to expand. I hope this helps you.

Really want to try this but it is unclear how much milk to use as my ice cream maker needs the ingredients already mixed. There are no measuring lines.

Thank you for the recipe!! I have a 4 quart maker I’m guessing just add the whole milk until I reach the fill line? Going to make this tomorrow for my birthday.

Best ice cream recipe I’ve ever tried! I made two batches today. One with diced strawberries and the other with mini choc chips. Delicious! Thank you for sharing.

I made this for 4th of July and it was a hit! We had different fruit and candy toppings and made an ice cream bar. My maker is for 4 qts without a fill line. I followed this recipe and then added milk to fill it to about 2/3 of the canister. It was delicious.

Sounds good and really would like to try it but I don’t have an ice cream maker. Can I make it with an kitchen aid mixer?

I wish I could answer that. I think if your mixer had an ice cream attachment, it could work. Good luck and have fun!

    For the KITCHEN AIDE Mixer!
Do NOT mix in icecream maker first, premix in a separate bowl and add liquid to already running machine. I did it right in icecream bowl first and it became a solid lump before I had a chance to stir! WHOOPS! Also, you must half this recipe, the kitchen aide bowl is too small! :)
