French Silk Parfaits From Scratch

April 7, 2016 By Meegan 2 Comments

Do I ever have a delicious recipe for you today! If you like a rich, chocolate dessert with a little crunch, you will LOVE my recipe for French Silk Parfaits From Scratch.

Making something from scratch isn’t as always as hard as it sounds. With fresh ingredients and a little time your family will flip over this recipe.

I think desserts served in a canning jar have a unique look for individual servings, don’t you?

This recipe will make 4 servings. Ideal for a dinner party dessert or to take on a picnic.

Let me share the recipe with you for your dessert file.

{French Silk Parfaits from Scratch}

Oat Crumble Layer:

1 cup uncooked quick cooking oats

3 Tablespoons brown sugar

1/3 cup melted butter

Toast oats in a dry skillet until light brown and crispy.  Combine with remaining ingredients. With a fork, lightly stir to make a crumble texture.

Chill while preparing filling.

Chocolate Filling Ingredients:

6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup butter

1/2-1 cup powdered sugar

1/8 tsp salt

2 tsp vanilla

3 large eggs

Melt chocolate chips.  Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy-approximately 10 minutes.  Add salt and vanilla, beat on high speed.  Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition for 5 minutes for a total of 20 minutes.  Fold in cooled, melted chocolate into mixture.

Whip 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream with 1 tsp vanilla and 2 Tablespoons powdered sugar until light and thick. (Sometimes I don’t even add the sugar to the cream, for a lighter not so sweet flavor.)

Now that all of your layers are ready to put together, begin layering your oat crumble, chocolate filling and fresh whipped cream.

I start with the oat crumble at the bottom, then the chocolate filling, adding the whip cream as the third layer. This will ensure the whip cream as being the top layer for your French Silk Parfaits From Scratch.

Start your layers all over again to fill your jar or glass.

I did “try” to keep my jar clean as I filled each layer. If you accidentally smudge one of layers on the side of your jar, just carefully clean it with a napkin or paper towel. Easy clean up and start again.

Don’t worry if your layers aren’t even or you can’t see each layer perfectly. As you begin to layer each level gravity pulls down the chocolate filling, oat crumble and whip cream. Each layer will naturally “fall”.

EASY French Silk Parfaits

I like to add a little crumble on the very top with a fresh berry. Use any berry you like. Perhaps strawberries, blackberries, or like I have here-fresh raspberries.
