I hope you have been enjoying Simply The BEST of 2013!! Now it is my turn to share Simply The Best of 2013-What Meegan Makes. What Meegan Makes started on Dec 27, 2011. Yep, it has been 2 full years of posts, creativity, amazing followers, and lots of fun friendships. Thanks so much for joining me on this journey of What Meegan Makes. It was a very slow start. I was doing blogging all on my own until about a year ago. I “met” some amazing bloggers that invited me to their “groups” and “troops” to help spread the word about my blog. I am SO grateful from them. (There are too many to mention) I am a blessed woman, without a doubt.

I am looking forward to a new year full of ideas, inspiration and a new look. Hopefully, my blog will continue to be a place of inspiration, recipes, thrifting, and wonderful thoughts for you to visit each day. I also hope to make the blog more accessible for all of my readers and followers. It will be a fabulous year!!

Coffee Filter and Book Page Garland

If you haven’t been able to tell already, I like garlands. Mostly paper garlands because as you know I have an obsession with book pages. I thought you would like a little detail on how I made this coffee filter and book page garland. It hangs over our bed.

My friend, Dawn saw it the other day and said it reminds her of shells and starfish. I love that idea!!

I made the twine long enough so I could hang it anywhere.

Here is a close up of what my coffee filter and book page garland looks like.

I started out by making my book pages just as I did with my Book Page Garland. Super easy. And cute anywhere!

I shared How to Dye Coffee Filters with Food Coloring. Once my coffee filters were dry, I began to string my book pages and coffee filters together. Alternating filters and pages. In the end, I came out with this:

Of course, you could hang this anywhere. It would look beautiful on a cake table at a birthday party, for a bridal shower, in a bathroom, or even above your bed!!

Six Fall/Thanksgiving Decorating Ideas

Oh my!! Fall is upon us and Thanksgiving is just days away. I thought it would be fun to share with you Six Fall/Thanksgiving Decorating Ideas. I LOVE using my kitchen shelves as a focal point. I chose to decorate them with 2 different styles, so you can see how easy and simple Thanksgiving decor can be.

My first choice is going with all whites, browns and a touch of blue (you know how I love blue!)

I love the outcome of this look. I used a jar from my croquet box filled with book page cones. I also painted my little pumpkins, that used to be orange. Super easy!! I really like to use empty frames so I used this one from my tv room.

I used the same PB knockoff pumpkin from my Halloween Shelves. I think it goes perfectly with the theme. I have my grandparents old books that I used for levels. The pine cones are from outside. Again-easy peasy!!

I think is goes very well with my Fall Paper decor

For my #2 idea: I added Fall colors to my Fall Shelves, because Hubby still likes the traditional orange (which happens to be his fave color)

I used a few of the same elements, but added some traditional Thanksgiving colors as well. Don’t you just love this scarecrow? He is my fave!!

For my #3 idea:

I am so pleased with my Fall Coffee Table. Simple and easy to bring Thanksgiving into our home. I painted this orange pumpkin white to blend with my ideas. I also rolled some book pages for a wreath look.

For my #4 craft:

Another great idea to bring Thanksgiving into your home. Using your used jars and add book pages with mod podge. Let your imagination go and create something wonderful for your table or mantel with these.

For #5 decor:

I had so much fun making this paper decor!! Again-easy simple and inexpensive!! It took me less than an hour to put this altogether. This would also look great as a centerpiece, don’t you think?

And, #6:

I also added some Fall decor on my bookshelf for a more Thanksgiving/Cottage feel to our home. I love to use my PB artichokes all over the house!! I love them in this vessel. They are perfect with the pumpkins and gourds.

How To Dye Coffee Filters With Food Coloring

I have been working a a project for our son’s wedding for about 5 weeks. It involves coffee filters, water, and food coloring. It is so simple and easy. I thought you might like to see the process for your own use. How To Dye Coffee Filters With Food Coloring …

Step One: You will need coffee filters (approximately how many you will need for your project), a large bowl, water, cookie sheets and/or wax paper and food coloring.

Step Two: Add the desired about of food coloring to your water. The less water you start with the darker your filters will be. Stir the coloring and water together. Using just 2 or 3 filters test the color to see if it is the color you want.

Step Three: Using just 2 or 3 filters test the color to see if it is the color you want. If they are too dark, add more water. Too light, add more food coloring.

Step Four: Dip each filter in just about an inch in the water. The coloring will “bleed” up the filter from there. If they are heavy duty filters like from Smart and Final, you can “color” about 7 filters at a time. If they are cheaper filters like from The Dollar Tree, you can do about 10 at a time.

Step Five: Set your “colored” filters on a cookie sheet and/or wax paper. I placed mine on a cookie sheet so I could put them somewhere else, other than the kitchen. You can see that the blue “bled” higher in these. Sometimes that happens. Just know that it WILL happen.

It will take 21-26 hours for your filters to dry, if they are heavy duty. The lighter ones take about 12-15 hours to dry.

Here are just a few I have done. This give you a good idea of how they will turn out when they are dry.

So now you know How To Dye Coffee Filters With Food Coloring. I hope you will give it a try. The only thing that limits you is your own creativity. Mix up some colors and have a good time creating something beautiful for your home, Thanksgiving, or Christmas!! I can’t wait to hear what you come up with.
