Top Ten Cottage Home Ideas

December 31, 2016 By Meegan 24 Comments

After this past year of blogging about a fresh look and feel for our home, I am sharing my Top Ten Cottage Home Ideas.

Sometimes I don’t even realize how much I have done during the year. I do enjoy looking to see what are YOUR favorite posts from me, as well.

I am not sharing my Top Ten Cottage Home Ideas in any particular order. The posts have been randomly chosen by me. Some are the most comments, most Pinterest pins, shared most on Twitter or even visited by my Facebook followers the most. Perhaps there is even one in the list that I like the best. So, for me that is a reason to list it in my top ten.

Let’s start with looking back at my …

DIY Pallet Art. I have never created a pallet project before this.  You are probably shocked, right? EVERYONE make projects with pallets, right? I am so pleased with how it turned out and am enjoying it hanging in our TV Room.

I like to find fresh flowers at the grocery store. Placing them in a vintage champagne bucket gives the vintage, cottage feel I love.

If you have been following me for any length of time, you know I like blue. Especially if it is a vintage jar, vessel or demi john.  Our cottage condo is filled with blue and jars or bottles all year long. Whether bottles are displaying fresh greens, sticks or even shells. They lend to the cottage style and beauty.

For a fun touch create gifts for your visitors. I chose to wrap tulip bulbs with brown paper and jute. But this is an idea you can use all year long. Say for instance you could wrap paper whites as a Christmas gift. Your friends and family would love this rustic, unique floral idea.

While out walking you may find a few pine cones. Gather them up and begin to create a centerpiece, wreath or a beautiful accessory for your Holiday decorating. My favorite thing about pine-cones is that they can be an accessory all year long. Doesn’t matter your style or season.

Living in a cottage style home, it is the ideal place for a small tea party. Invite a few of your friends over for tea, scones, fresh jam and cucumber sandwiches. Dress up, bring your gloves and Make sure ALL of you wear a hat. It is SO fun to see the various styles and colors everyone shows up in.  You can also make a naked cake to nibble on while you visit. Enjoy the day and just have fun.

I was born on July Fourth. So, as you can imagine, it is fun for me to decorate the patriotic holidays. After spotting a banner just like this at Pottery Barn, making my own banner would be easy peasy. Can I just say-I LOVE it.

Fresh fruit, bush cuttings, a few faux hydrangeas make a lovely tablescape. Whether you are having a simple lunch, a dinner party or a date night in-this is an in-expensive way to create a fresh look without spending a lot. Use your imagination and enjoy the process.

For the last two of the Top Ten Cottage Home Ideas 2016, I chose recipes.

Living in our condo cottage, I LOVE to cook or bake luscious meals and/or desserts from scratch? Our favorite “go to” dessert is this Lemon Cream Pie topped with fresh raspberries. It is fresh, light, tart and sweet. AND very easy to make, no matter what level of cook you are.

As for a breakfast, lunch or dinner, you have GOT to try this recipe. It starts off Garlic Mashed Potatoes topped with homemade biscuits, bacon gravy, and freshly chopped veggies. Everything is made from scratch and seriously some of the best comfort food around. It takes a little time to make, but well worth it.

I hope you have enjoyed my Top Ten Cottage Home Ideas. To have you stop by is always a highlight in my day.

And for more fun, there are 20 other bloggers that are going me. So be sure to scroll down to the bottom for even more Top Ten ideas from 2016.

Happy New Year! May 2017 be wonderful and peaceful for you and your family.

I love all of your beautiful posts my friend! I would love to come to a tea party at your lovely cottage – but I’m not sure I have any little white gloves. But I do remember having them as a child and how we all (my sisters, my mom and I) would wear them to church on Sunday!
